All items (including letters, small packet, large cartons, etc) posted at Post Office will be charged based on their weight. For PosDaftar, sender of the item is expected to purchase a PosDaftar label which costs RM 2.20 (inclusive of postage for 20grams of weight). Item weighs more than 20grams should pay the postage by buying sufficient stamp to stick on the packaged item. Whereas for PosLaju, the weight of the item will be determined by the staff at PosLaju and charge the rate based on the published PosLaju rate and the shipping zone (excluding 15% of fuel surcharge, 10% of handling charge and 6% of GST).

Let me give you some illustrations with example.
Let's say we have a book to deliver via PosDaftar, the book's weight is 300 grams. But we are not going to ship the book like it is! We need to pack it nicely first to prevent damage during course of transit. Book Lovers will normally wrap your book with a plastic wrapper then put it into an envelop or wrap another layer with brown paper. This might add approximately another 50 grams to the weight. So now the item to be posted is approximately 350 grams.
To post using PosDaftar, we must first buy the PosDaftar label. That costs us RM 2.20. According to the Domestic Rates of Pos Malaysia, RM 2 of stamps should be sticked on the item for small packet with weight of 350 grams. So the total fee to ship via PosDaftar is RM 2.20 + 2 = RM 4.20. So consider the cost we have to bear when we offer free shipping... But we're happy to do this as one of our mission statement is to promote the reading culture in Malaysia especially Sabahan!
Next is PosLaju. Let's say we're shipping the same book (weight after packing is approximately 350 grams) using PosLaju and to send to West Malaysia from Sabah. The published rate is RM 7.00. Here's the calculation for the extra charges:
Fuel surcharge: RM 7 * 15% = RM 1.05
Handling charge: RM 7 * 10% = RM 0.70
GST: (RM 7 + 1.05 + 0.70) * 6% = RM 0.53
So total payable for this item will be RM 7 + 1.05 + 0.70 + 0.53 = RM 9.275 (will be rounded up to RM 9.30).
